He's in none ...I had never heard of him either. He's in none of the anthologies, despite the fact that he's routinely praised by famous men and his poem "Circus in the Sun" was reviewed in the New York Times as among the greatest of the century. His obscurity is a testament to the importance of self-promotion if one wants to have a "name." He didn't care. I like that.Rodakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00077919085157653816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554498168264477884.post-70391621882094383412010-12-28T11:22:43.229-05:002010-12-28T11:22:43.229-05:00I've never heard of him, but he sounds like my...I've never heard of him, but he sounds like my kind of guy. Merton recommended him to Milosz as a poet he might like. I have begun reading some Lax in an anthology of his writers that I borrowed from the library. Lax did not self-promote and lived as a hermit in Europe (mostly Greece) for many years before coming back to the States as an old man. He was a Columbia University with Kerouac, Ginsberg, Berryman et al. He studied under Mark Van Doren like the rest of them. He was a Jew who converted to Catholicism. Some who knew him considered him to be saintly. His stuff is hard to find, but worth looking into.Rodakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00077919085157653816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554498168264477884.post-43148298822074765202010-12-28T09:49:44.440-05:002010-12-28T09:49:44.440-05:00Yes, stunning and beautiful.Yes, stunning and beautiful.Pentimentohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17161146891505294679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554498168264477884.post-5871582259561365572010-12-28T09:38:56.424-05:002010-12-28T09:38:56.424-05:00It's stunning, isn't it?It's stunning, isn't it?Karen Edmisten https://www.blogger.com/profile/04446214835142625161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554498168264477884.post-76460899766230188182010-12-26T07:33:56.984-05:002010-12-26T07:33:56.984-05:00ANd Milósz no less.ANd Milósz no less.Pentimentohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17161146891505294679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5554498168264477884.post-53518922612661083102010-12-26T07:16:10.252-05:002010-12-26T07:16:10.252-05:00Merton is the Man!Merton is the Man!Rodakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00077919085157653816noreply@blogger.com
