"We are all beggars"

My husband and I got married on the day that Pope John Paul II died, April 2, 2005, which was, that year, the vigil of Divine Mercy Sunday.  I've always felt that the day was especially blessed because of the Pope's passing into eternal life.  As you probably know, he will be beatified on this year's Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011.

Should you ever have doubts about the man's own mercy and personal holiness, read on.

We are all graced to have shared a planet with such a man. I remember that day well. I had guests over for dinner. I cried often during the days following. He taught us how to live and to die in grace.

Happy belated anniversary to you and your husband! Going to JPII's beatification would be a great anniversary present . . . One of my happiest memories is being at his 25th anniversary mass in Rome, which corresponded with the beatification of Mother Teresa. Truly an experience of the universal church in celebration of its two exemplary figures.

Thanks, Emily! That would be an amazing way to celebrate our anniversary . . . maybe when he's canonized, which I pray will be soon.
