Best Sesame Street Ever

There's been some discussion of vintage Sesame Street clips in the combox. This one is the clear winner for all time.

Aw, Pentimento, you know I love vintage Sesame Street! And you know this is my all-time favorite clip ever:

Followed by this one:

(Although it scared me as a kid because the Muppets looked so disgruntled!)

Oooh, and I found clips of the Muppet Show with Ethel Merman that Otepoti was extolling:

And while I was there, I found this, which really made me smile:

(I swear, I'm not a gay man!)

Dreshny, what a find - your last one!

I noticed that Barbra's clapping is not in rhythm! That's what a friend of mine calls "white people clapping" -- his favorite example is the clapping along on Prairie Home Companion, when the audience is always a hair behind the beat . . .

Yikes - have you seen this?

Cool. New YouTube videos my son can watch. I love the Mr. Blue Sky videoes he watches religiously, but I also need some variety.

Dreshny, your clip messes with my head. It SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO HAPPEN. It's the '40s, 50s', '60s and '70s all trying to take place at once.

Fun seeing Barbra well-and-truly upstaged and outclassed by a duo of doyennes, though ;-)

Otepoti

(whose last DVD purchase was not "Dr Atomic", I'm afraid, but The Muppet Show Series One and Two.)

Hmmm, Otepoti . . . someone once told me that time was chthonic, not linear . . .
But hold on a minute - I have to say that, in spite of her white-people clapping and being totally outsung by her colleagues, I'm very partial to Barbra's hairdo in that ciip (and I swear, I'm not a gay man either).

My son is now running through the house singing "Be my Echo." I think he's quite taken with Madeline Kahn. Or perhaps Grover...I may just be projecting my own infatuation.

Glad we could be of service, Kyle! :)

Wow, Dreshny, the "Subway" clip is so 1970s, with that dystopic vision of New York filtering down even to the kiddies . . . weird and a little disturbing (but my son loves watching it).

I know! Crazy, huh? I remember asking my mom when I was really little what they were singing about, since I'd never been to NYC.

It made me think of Fallen Sparrow's recent post about the George Tooker retrospective at the National Academy of Fine Arts. He did that famously scary painting of a woman in the subway.
