Matchmaking 101

I'm still on my university music department's mailing list, and I forward the notices I receive of interesting concerts and lectures around New York to the students I've taught in the university's senior colleges over the past couple of years. One of my Music 101 students from the Spring 2008 semester wrote me back to tell me that she had been dating another student she'd met in the class, and that they'd gone together to some of the events I'd recommended.

It's good to know that I made, or at least facilitated, an appreciable difference (and I hope it's a good one) in at least two lives!

I'd been hoping to get emails from my students about how much my teaching had changed their lives, but what the heck!

Of course, you probably condemned them to a life of disappointment and misery.

By the way, the new verification-code word which popped up after I posted is "unschizi," which seems bizarrely plausible somehow, though I'm not sure how.

I've had similar experiences with 2 of our former babysitters who are now wed to good guys whom they would not have met had it not been for me. I think it's kinda scary really.

RB, do you mean I condemned them by virtue of the content of what I taught, or by my very ethos?

BTW, they are a biracial couple: African-Amerian young lady, Italian-American youmg man. As I recall, he was an average student, and she was one of those many who show a lot of promise at the beginning of the course, but sort of peter out towards the end.
